Why Synthesize Genes
Gene synthesis is an affordable and fast way of getting sequence-verified cloned DNA. It is more convenient than traditional cloning approaches and it is often the only way to complete a project. Among main reasons and applications we can mention:
- Template availability: biological material may be costly to produce or to purchase, out of reach (remote locations), rare (paleontological material, museum specimens), no longer existing (destroyed or lost samples) or dangerous to handle (pathogenic viruses or microorganisms)
- Codon optimization: the codon usage of the native gene may be different from that of the expression host, resulting in low protein levels or no expression at all; optimizing the codons can enable or increase protein expression
- Protein engineering: whether you want to alter substrate specificity or thermal stability of existing enzymes, construct chimeric enzymes, or design entirely novel proteins, gene synthesis is much more powerful than PCR-based methods
- Synthetic biology: gene synthesis technology can be used to efficiently construct plasmids, gene clusters, complete biochemical pathways and even chromosomes

- No extra charge: we will only charge you a fixed price per base pair, no matter how long or how complex the genes are or how many genes you order; no additional charge per order or per gene or for long or difficult genes
- Complete choice of cloning vector: you can choose between our proprietary vectors, any vector that you provide us with, or any commercial vector that we can purchase for you from its manufacturer
Extremozyme Gene Synthesis Offering
You can provide us with either a DNA sequence (which will be synthesized as provided) or a protein sequence with a codon usage table for codon optimization.
- You will receive at least 2 ug of plasmid, consisting of the synthesized DNA cloned into the vector of your choice, entirely sequence-verified on both strands.
- Delivery time: 15 business days for genes up to 2 kb long, 5 business days for each additional 2 kb.
- Size limit: we will accept orders for genes up to 12 kb long for now.
